5 Tips For Wellness in the Workplace

At Plant Based Life we are dedicated to helping Companies to improve productivity in the workplace through our Corporate Programs and Services. John Cawley the founder of Plant Based Life has previously worked in large Corporate Companies and in various IT related roles before switching to the Health and Fitness Industry many years ago. This experience has motivated John to promote the importance of wellness for staff.
Workplace wellness cannot be treated as a band-aid, and you definitely won't be able to find it in a fitness app. Engagement, motivation, support and strategy are the keys to a successful program. If employees are not involved in the solution, it's difficult to succeed. Preventable wellness is a complete lifestyle and behavior change and change takes time and commitment.

Despite the importance of wellness programs there are still many businesses in Australia that don’t take workplace wellness seriously and promote it for their staff. The fact is there are huge business benefits to prioritizing workplace wellness. If your company is looking for improvements in your workplace wellness effort, here are our five tips to help you reach your goals

1). Focus on The Workplace Environment.
Make health and wellness a part of your corporate culture but make that culture a healthy environment. Emphasize positive interactions – cooperation rather than individualism and permit flexible approach to work – such as flexi days and staff team building events and days out. When employees are encouraged to engage with the group, they tend to be more open and work together to build a more productive environment.

2). Provide Mental and Physical Health Education.
Bring in experts who can help staff to learn how to get healthier. Bring in nutritional gurus, exercise experts and specialists to teach your team about the benefits of better wellness and the things they need to do to achieve better health and wellbeing. Talk to us about our ‘Lunch n Learn’ events.

3). Be Creative.
Workplace wellness shouldn’t be boring. Creating unique and dynamic programs that consistently evolve over time to ensure the best possibility of long term success. Human beings need to be challenged and stimulated in different ways to create change. Appoint a wellness lead that takes direct responsibility over the operations.

4). Lead By Example.
Make sure that all team leaders and heads of departments add healthy habits and practices that will inspire staff to follow. This is extremely important as staff won’t do what you tell them to do, but they will follow what you do as a leader and this is very important. If you want productive staff you have to be a productive and effective leader. Also have healthy food options in the office, provide some free fruit and vegetables and snacks for staff and focus on hydration with good water filtration systems.

5). Boost Workplace Productivity Through Regular Meditation
We cannot emphasise enough how important regular meditation is for all aspects of life, but if you can get a group of staff to meditate together regularly it will transform the workplace to a caring, sharing and productive environment. There have been several studies carried out that have shown regular group meditation in the workplace improves employees attention, behaviour and focus.
