Life Changing Experience At Personalised Raw Vegan Retreat in the Atherton Tablelands

In November 2020 my family and I had the privilege to spend time at Riverhaven in the Atherton Tablelands on a raw vegan retreat. These retreats are run by Janette Murray-Wakelin and her husband Alan Murray, their depth of knowledge on the raw vegan lifestyle and their own inspirational life stories and experience provided us with so much valuable information and life lessons, we feel very fortunate to have spent this time with them.

Janette’s wealth of knowledge on raw food was so helpful for us, I had already been eating raw vegan for almost 4 years, but I knew I wasn’t doing it correctly and had been eating far too many nuts / seeds / avocados and raw vegan desserts, (it is also worth noting that these so called raw desserts are not actually raw). When you learn and get guided by people who have lived this lifestyle for so long and are shining examples of how to thrive on this lifestyle it is extremely beneficial. Since leaving Riverhaven, my wife is now 100% raw and our 6-year old son is eating mostly raw with very occasional cooked food if he is at a social gathering etc, and we have all vastly improved what we eat, and the times that we eat. The time in Riverhaven helped us all give up a lot of bad habits and adopt much better strategies in eating this way, and we have noticed major benefits eating mostly fruit with some vegetables, nuts and seeds, and no more cacao desserts or any of that stuff, we have given it all up for good  :)

The major shift has been eating at regular times and now not eating later than 6:30 PM, in fact we usually have the last meal of the day earlier than that. We have also sat down as a family to eat our meals as often as we can, and working on implementing this more often, but due to work commitments we can’t do this as often as we would like, but it is our plan to do this more often in 2021. Our family will never forget our time with Janette & Alan, it was transformational on so many levels, our 6-year old son Curtis loved it there and Alan took him under his wing and had him involved in various jobs and activities around the land at Riverhaven. We also went swimming every day in the river there, which was a big achievement for myself as I have always loved swimming but stopped about 15 years ago due to recurring ear infections, but I had no issues whatsoever swimming there in the pristine waters at Riverhaven. We will always be grateful to Janette and Alan for everything they taught us.
